Not only is Florence one of the most beautiful cites in Italy, it has also produced some of the most important artists, writers and thinkers of our time. It's also (thanks to Dante) the place where the Italian language was born.

Cimabue and Giotto, the fathers of Italian painting lived here, along with Brunelleschi, Donatello and Masaccio, founders of the Renaissance. Florence is also responsible for producing the universal genius of Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo.

Other famous artists and their contributions include: Petrarch and Boccaccio (literary studies), Machiavelli (political Science), Guicciardini (historical prose) and of course, Gallileo for his pioneering work in the field of experimental science.

Their works, along with those of many generations of artists up to the masters of the present century, are gathered in Florence's many museums.

Florence is a fascinating city, not to be missed. Even if you're not into art or history, you'll be captivated by its unmistakable charm and beauty.
