The Pantheon is another absolute must see. It's a spectacular temple - the burial place of Italy's first two kings, as well as Renaissance artist, Raphael. The Pantheon Fountain, designed in 1575, graces the grounds in front of the temple.

The massive dome shaped interior is over 142 feet in diameter. In comparison the dome of the White House in Washington is only 96 feet in diameter. Rome's Pantheon was the largest dome ever built until Brunelleschi built the dome at the Florence Cathedral between 1420 and 1436.

The Pantheon is still the largest masonary dome in the world. It's also probably one of the most intact pieces of Roman architecture on earth. It has some how managed to survive 20 centuries of invasion, erosion, decay and general wear and tear.

Quick facts!

Pantheon is a Greek word meaning "to honor all Gods."
The original Pantheon, built by Marcus Vipsanius Agrippa, was rectangular shaped.
Only the portico in front of the Pantheon is what remains of Agrippa's original temple.
